Jackson, MS.  On Tuesday, July 10th, staff from State Treasurer Lynn Fitch’s office will be available at the Oxford Conference Center to help area residents search the State’s unclaimed property list and file claims to their funds.

“The State’s unclaimed property program is a great economic stimulus program,” said Treasurer Fitch.  “We help individuals, businesses, and even government agencies locate funds that they can use for meeting personal budget needs or investing in their companies, employees, and communities.  I appreciate Mayor Tannehill for inviting my office to partner with the City of Oxford and Lafayette County to help local residents find their money.”

Since becoming Treasurer in January 2012, Treasurer Fitch has helped distribute over $82 million in unclaimed property.  This represents more than 54% of all the funds distributed through the State unclaimed property program since it began in 1982.  Unclaimed property specialists from her office will be available:

Tuesday, July 10, 2018
3:00 to 7:00 pm
Oxford Conference Center
102 Ed Perry Boulevard, Oxford

Staff will be available to help people search the State’s unclaimed property list, complete claims forms, and even notarize their paperwork.  Individuals planning to attend are encouraged to bring the following to expedite their claims:

  • Photo ID (driver’s license, passport, military ID card, etc.)
  • Your Social Security Card
  • Proof of address (utility bill, etc.)
  • Proof of name change (marriage license, divorce decree, etc.)
  • If the owner is deceased, bring the death certificate, will, obituary, or affidavit of death

Individuals can always check the State’s full listing at www.treasurerlynnfitch.com to see if the State has any money in their name, as well.  It is constantly being updated.

Media are invited to come to this event to see how the process works.  Your stories help people learn about the unclaimed property program and find money they may not realize is waiting for them.
