Thomas Ray Floyd for Local Schools
People of Simpson County District Three: when I am seated on the Simpson County School Board (Lord willing), I will work to preserve the integrity of our local schools. This is one of the reasons I have opposed the consolidation of Magee and Mendenhall High Schools. Local schools are good for families and communities. The closer the school is to the family, the better. I remain unconvinced that consolidation would actually help our young people get a better education. Also, consolidation would increase transportation costs and create more traffic problems. Furthermore, I opposed consolidation because of the hefty price tag of $51 million and the indebtedness of $39 million proposed by its proponents.
I am not only opposed to consolidation “at this time,” but I will remain committed to the integrity of our local schools and I will not waiver when I am seated on the Board.
