The Mississippi Senate on Thursday, March 6, 2025, honored 30-year former Associated Press Mississippi Capitol Correspondent Emily Wagster Pettus, with Senate Concurrent Resolution 505, Emily began covering the Legislature in 1990 for The Clarion Ledger, and in January 2001, she covered the Legislature for The Associated Press, until January 2025.
Emily had also been a Clarion-Ledger Beat Reporter covering Rankin County, a one-person Gulf Coast Bureau, and a Copy Editor for International Edition Textbooks of USA TODAY. Prior to her service with The Clarion Ledger, she worked with the Vicksburg Evening Post as City Hall Reporter and Feature Writer.
Emily was accompanied by her husband Gary Pettus, (3rd from left), during the honors.
