The Scriptural passage selected for today is found in 1 Peter 3:4: “It should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight.” The apostle speaks to the early Christians of the importance of having a quiet and gentle spirit. The demeanor of the Christian should be an outward manifestation of what lies within. God does not abide loud and boisterous behavior from His children. Do we possess that “unfading beauty” which only comes from the indwelling of the Holy Spirit? If not, we know what must be done. Do a personal assessment: stop, be still and quiet, and ask God for redemption and restoration. I’m reminded of a gospel song, one of my favorites, penned by a gifted Mississippi songwriter who lives near Meridian. The chorus contains these stirring words: “Lord, please forgive me and fill me anew. So that I can serve and bring others to you. My voice would be empty, just a noise in the wind, unless You anoint me with Your Spirit again.” Amen!
