The Scriptural passage chosen for today is found in Romans 14:17: “For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking, but of righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit.” The apostle Paul wrote this in order to squelch some dietary disputes which had arisen within the church. His point was that God’s kingdom isn’t restricted to the customs of this world. The virtues of peace, righteousness, and joy as dispensed by the Holy Spirit are to be practiced with no squabbling over what Christians might be served or allowed to eat. The church is to be a sanctuary of peace, joy, and righteousness. Let us remember this as we go about assembling for our worship services. All else is of little consequence in comparison. Amen!
