Southern Miss Tailgate Concert Series set for fall 2016
The sixth annual WUSM Tailgate Concert Series will return this fall for University of Southern Mississippi home football games with a great lineup of local and regional favorites of WUSM-Southern Miss Radio and its listeners.
The Lanna Wakeland Band will kick off the series Sept. 10 at the first home game, followed by Lloyd “Hurricane” Munn and B.C. Duett on Sept. 17, Scott Chism and the Better Half on Oct. 5, The Devil Music Company for Homecoming Oct. 29, Wes Lee Nov. 5, and Wes Johnson and the Shifters will cap off the series Nov. 25.
The concerts, which take place on USM’s Centennial Green, are free and the public is invited to attend. Concert times are available on WUSM’s website, www.southernmissradio.com. Centennial Green is an open tailgate zone, however, you don’t need to be tailgating in the area to enjoy the festivities. Simply bring a chair or blanket and join Southern Miss Radio to soak up the sounds.
Lesley Sanders-Wood, business manager of the Southern Miss Student Media Center (SMSMC), said the Tailgate Concert Series serves multiple purposes. “It’s the mission of the Tailgate Concert Series to add to the game day experience while also providing training and experience for the students involved in the SMSMC,” she said. “I enjoy working with students on all aspects of this event. As they learn and become involved in the community, we are able to see the impact they will have on future generations.”
The Tailgate Concert Series is presented by Southern Miss Radio, the College of Arts & Letters, Southern Miss Catering, University Glass Tinting, Walmart 98, Southern Beverage Hattiesburg and Coca-Cola of Hattiesburg.
WUSM, which broadcasts from the Hattiesburg campus of USM, is the Pine Belt’s only community radio station and provides hands-on experience within the radio industry to students. Southern Miss Radio has been voted Signature Magazine’s Best in the Pine Belt three years in a row and offers listeners an alternative experience from traditional commercial radio by broadcasting unique artists from all over the world. WUSM is housed in the Southern Miss School of Mass Communication and Journalism.
