There are many wonderful tried, tested and true products on the market. As recommended by my skin-care aestheticians a basic 3-step routine will work for most everyone. But as much as your skin-care system may work for you after a few months it is good to try new products. Putting products in rotation breathes new life into my skin. Changing up helps against any skin-care line losing its effectiveness.
I keep my morning skin-care routine as simple as possible, following these 3 easy steps.
A. Cleanse – We all should wash our face twice a day. Don’t overlook this simple process because its the most important step you can take for you skin. It’s good to use small, repetitive motions to massage the cleanser into your face. Motions increase the circulation in your face, waking it up, and deep cleanses into the pores. When done rinse with warm water.
B. Nourish – Then apply moisturizer. Any dermatologist will tell you moisturizing is an important part of protecting the skin’s natural barrier. Even the ones with oily skin should use moisturizer. My skin is normal to dry. I love moisturizing in the morning. My skin doesn’t feel right without it. It’s always a great base for your makeup too.
C. Protect – Finally, add sunscreen. Mostly all moisturizers have SPF in them. It gives a protective base before you add your makeup. Taking your time with your skin-care routine really pays off. It also takes a few minutes for products to completely soak into the skin, so leaving a few minutes between each step can really make a difference.
Nighttime Routine is equally as important. At night, I’m especially thorough. After a long day, your skin needs extra attention.
A. Remove Eye Makeup – Take off your eye makeup every night. Whether you’ve had a light makeup day or heavy with a full set of false eyelashes, eyes need to rest without anything on them.
B. Polish – I exfoliate my skin. I stay away from real abrasive products. Instead I select gentle gels or lotions that polish skin and removes any dead skin cells.
C. Cleanse – Then wash your face. Even though you’ve polished your face, its different when you’ve cleansed it. I like feeling like I’m taking off the day and getting it ready for a new day! This step keeps skin healthy, because its removing any remaining makeup and dirt particles that would clog pores and cause breakouts during sleep.
D. Nourish – Moisturizers designed for night tend to be thicker because they contain more vitamins and antioxidants. Skin absorbs more products during sleep so its important to put a product with higher quality ingredients on your face. Most dermatologist recommend products with hyaluronic acid for moisturize or retinol for skin-cell turnover.
E. Add Eye Cream – This is definitely an important step especially as we get older. Eye creams help preserve and moisturize the thin area of skin around the eye giving it a more youthful and awake appearance. I use eye cream morning and night!
I believe in investing in good skin-care when possible but budget friendly alternatives can be found at your local drugstore. Research for the best ones to look for and purchase. Don’t forget to treat your skin to a skin-care routine. Your skin will thank you!
