The Simpson Academy Girls Doubles # 1 Tennis Team of McKenzie and Madison Shows came out the victors with the South State title in Tuesday’s MAIS South State Class AAA Tennis Competition held at Jones Community Junior College. The Shows came into the competition as District 4 Runner-Up after losing to Natchez Cathedral in a tie-breaker last week in District Playoffs.
In South State play, the Shows battled South District 5 # 1 team Silliman (a set of twins as well!) in a 6-1 6-1 win to advance to the championship round. In the championship round, they faced the Natchez Cathedral duo again and this time with different results! Final score for the championship round was 6-3, 6-4. The Shows will advance to Overall State Playoffs next week to be held in Vicksburg.
Also headed to the State Overall Playoffs from Simpson is the Mixed Doubles # 1 team of Maddie Moody and Cooper Carrico. Moody/Carrico came out of district as District 4 Runner-up and advanced to South State as well. After winning a first round against South District 5 #1 seed Silliman (6-2, 6-2), they advanced and played against ACCS in the Championship round losing in a hard-fought battle 3-6, 4-6. They will advance to the Overall Competition next week in Vicksburg as well.
Good luck to these SCA Cougar Tennis members as they “Go for State”!
