Tom McAlpin, Sixteen Section Land Manager, recognized employees with the Forestry Commission that are retiring. Keith Williamson is retiring with 30 years of service, Doug Warren 37 years of service, David Magee 31 years of service, and Larry Williamson with 20 years of service. Williamson thanked the school district for the great working relationship. Williamson praised McAlpin on the job and knowledge he had with the sixteen-section land.
Dr. Sanders presented the board with data on benchmarks for the high schools and district. Dr. Sanders was pleased to report that the Simpson County School District graduation rate is above the state and national average. Simpson County District graduation rate is 85.76 percent. The State average for graduation is 83 percent and the National average is 84 percent.

The board approved donations by the Magee Courier and People’s Bank for the purchase of security cameras at Magee High School.
Approval was granted for Simpson County Technical Center FFA to receive a donation from Simpson County Farm Bureau in the amount of $1,800.00. |

With the contract approval from Board Attorney Wesla Sullivan, the Simpson County School Board approved the contract to obtain Bailey Program Management, LLC to conduct a strategic Facility/Organization Study. The cost of the study will run $22,000.00. Schedule shall be 90 days from executed agreement and is dependent on the district’s availability for meetings.
The board approved to hire Auction 18 to conduct auction for June 17, 2019 for 10% of gross sales of $20,000 or under. If auction has a gross sale exceeding $20,000, then the percentage will go down to 8%. Auction 18 agrees to handle all the auctioneering, clerking, and cashiering, of said auction. Board member Stan Bulger asked in the future to consider local auctioneers as an option.
Parents and teachers will see an increase for lunches next school year. The board approved to increase the price of breakfast to $1.50 for students and $2.25 for an adult. The cost of lunch will increase to a price of $2.75 per meal for a student and $$3.25 for an adult. Again, a reminder no meals will be charged in the future.
Misty Hanna with Federal Programs announced that 22 scholarships were awarded for dual enrollment for high school students taking dual enrollment at Copiah Lincoln Community College. The scholarships were paid for through federal funding.
Board Attorney Wesla Sullivan announced she is in negotiation with architect on the contract wording for the field house at Magee High School. As soon as an agreement is reached the contract will then l be presented to board for approval and the bid process will start from that point.
Superintendent Greg Paes praised the Magee High School Baseball Team and Coach Allen Eubanks for the great season the team accomplished.
A cafeteria cashier for Mendenhall Jr. High and a SPED Instructional Assistant at Magee High were both approved by the board as new positions. The following people were approved to hire on an emergency license: Timber Lott, Addie Keyes, and Marlye Brunson as teachers at Mendenhall Jr. High; Madeline Conerly and Ashley Jackson as teachers at Magee Middle School; Marissa McDonald as a teacher at Mendenhall Elementary; Richard Sanders as a teacher at the Career and Technical Center; and Steven Hancock as a teacher at Magee High School.
The following certified recommendations were approved for the 2019-2020 school year: Lauren Gibbons as a Speech Pathologist at Mendenhall Elementary; Dr. Latisha Hayes as an Academic Interventionist and Magee High School; Richard Sanders as a teacher at the Career and Technical Center; Jada Deal as the Librarian at Magee high School and Mendenhall Jr. High School.; and Jared Smith as a teacher at Magee High School.
The following classified recommendations were approved for hire for the 2019-2020 school year: Minita Barnes a s Secretary/Bookkeeper at Simpson Central and Kayley Pennington as an Instructional Assistant at Mendenhall Elementary.
