Simpson Academy’s Girls Cross-Country Team stood out the Southeastern Cross-Country All-Stars Meet held Saturday, November 11, 2023 in Brandon. The meet was invitation only, and runners had to qualify with a certain time to compete.

The girls came back strong after a heartbreaking one-point loss to East Rankin in the MAIS 5-A State Championship.

MAIS 5-A Individual State Champion Lily Overby led the All-Stars Meet as well, winning with a time of 19:23.97.

Three boys from Simpson Academy also competed in the meet: Jayden Smith, Zeke Scallorn, and Brason Fox.

With only one senior on this year’s team, the future looks bright for both the boys and girls next season. The girls have been led consistently all season by sophomores Lily Overby and Layla Warren.

The boys’ team, too, is young and full of promise. With no seniors on this year’s team, next season should see even more growth in this young team.

Simpson Academy Girls’ Cross-Country Team finished second at MAIS State Championship Meet. Left to Right: Jami Bishop, State Champion Lily Overby, Sophie Grubbs, Izzy Craft, Kinsley Welch, Caroline McAlpin, Anna Joy Blain, All-State Layla Warren, and All-State Charlee Franks.
