Magee Simpson County School Board met Thursday, March 9, 2017 for their regular scheduled meeting.

The meeting was called to order by board President, Stacey Herrin.

Agenda and previous minutes were approved.

Each Department gave their monthly reports for approval.

The following travel was approved:

  1. Stephanie Kennedy request permission to attend NASA STEM training, March 30, 2017 at Keesler Air Fore Base in Biloxi, Ms. Paid for by MDE
  2. Elizabeth Christian requests permission to travel to MS Valley State University, March 28-29, 2017 for recruitment purposes. Federal Funds
  3. Crystal Brewer request permission to attend the American School Counselor Association Conference, July 8-11, 2017 in Denver, CO.

District Funds.

The following field trips were approved:

  1. Brenda White and HOSA students from the Technical Center request permission to attend HOSA State Leadership Conference, March 28, 2017.
  2. Jada Deal and Magee Middle School students request permission to travel to the Audubon Zoo and Aquarium in New Orleans, LA on May 12, 2017.
  3. Judy Byrd and Mendenhall Elementary gifted students request permission to travel to Disney World in Orland, FL, March 8-13, 2018.
  4. Dustin Inman and Tech Center students request permission travel to Audubon Aquarium in New Orleans, La on April 4, 2017.
  5. Charles Price and 5 students from Simpson Central request permission to travel to Northridge High School in Tuscaloosa, AL, March 24-25, 2017 to participate in the “All American Cities Honor Band.”

Superintendent Greg Paes submitted and board approved 2017-2018 Academic Calendar. Mr. Paes brought to the attention of the board MS Scholars would have their banquet April 20, 2017 at Frist Baptist Church Magee. Dr. Ronnie Neetles would be the guest speaker.

Meeting was adjourned to go into executive session.
