Simpson County School Board Meeting – July 18, 2019

The Simpson County School Board met Thursday, July 18, 2019.

Travel Approval

The Board approved the following travel requests:

Consent agenda

The Board gave permission to Magee Middle School to dispose of bookkeeping records from 2011-2012 and 2012-2013.

The Board approved timber sale for 20 acres in Section 16, T10N, R17W. Richton Tie & Timber was the highest bidder.

Approval was given for the Reclassification in Section 16, T10N, R17W as advertised. Thirty (30) acres will be reclassified from forestry to commercial as discussed last month.

The Board approved the lease agreement with Pine Belt Harvesting LLC for the proposed wood yard located in Section 16, T10N, R17W. The lease is for $3,750 per year for the (10) year term.

Each school in the district presented their school safety plans for approval by the Board.

The board approved the child nutrition manual, which will be given to students and can be found on the schools’ websites.

Permission was given to Debbie Davis to re-advertise RFP for Algebra I and Foundations of Algebra.

The Foster Care Manual was approved by the board.

The School board approved the contract with Bailey Education. Bailey’s coaches will support the goals and expectations of the Simpson County School District by serving/working as classroom supports, resource providers, assessment and data coaches, and curriculum and instructional specialists.

The ACT Assessment was approved by the board.  The assessment will support the customer’s administration of the ACT assessments to its eligible 10th, 11th, and/or 12th grade students.

The board approved the following support services, which were presented by Jeanie Pigg, Director of Support Services:

The contract with JH&H Architect was approved for the field house at Magee High School. The job is now ready for the bidding process.

The board approved the transfer request of a student at Magee Middle School due to hardship of the student’s mother. The child’s father lives in Smith county and has joint custody. The board voted to release the student from the Simpson County School District, following the policy that the board has in place.

Human Resources Approval

At the time of the board meeting, all but six positions in the county had been filled.

Magee High School received a $5,000 grant for an instructional coach from School Based Healthcare Solutions. The board approved the grant under advisement and approval of the school attorney.
