The Simpson County Supervisors met Monday, May 2, 2022 for their regular scheduled meeting. Board President Brian Kennedy called the meeting to order followed by a prayer.

Buddy Wolverton, County Engineer, reported the status of State-Aid & LSSBP Projects as of February 28, 2022.

  • LSBP-64(23)– Bridge replacement on Sofa Road is 99% Completed with 87.69% Elapse time. Contractor as completed all work items. Will request a final inspection.
  • SAP-64(64)– Grade, drain, base and surface for Star to Braxton. 3% completions with 3% Elapsed time. Contractor is clearing and grubbing project site.
  • LSBP-64(24)– Bridge Replacement Shorter Road – Working on P.S. & E. Assembly. Awaiting utility agreements.
  • SAP-64(65)– (Bridge Replacement) Dry Creek Road – Office review plans were mailed to State Aid on September 27, 2021. Awaiting wetland permit cost from the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers.
  • LSBP-64(25) – Bridge Replacement Peacock Road – Starting field work.
  • 2022 Simpson County Resurfacing Project – Roads 1A- 50 – 19% Completed with 15% elapsed time. Contractor conducting base repair, edge and leveling operation.

Deputy Sheriff Reynolds presented the following report on behalf of Sheriff Paul Mullins.

  • Skyla Morrow and Sharon Fewell Dispatchers permission to attend Behind the Badge Class in Pearl, MS May 15-17. The cost is $300 each.
  • Taylor Haise dispatch permission to attend NEI-911 40 basic communication course May-16-20 in Collins, MS. The cost is $395.

Tommy Joe Harvey, Chancery Clerk presented a certificate of training which will a part of the minutes for the election commissioners training January 17-21, 2022. Calvin Edward, Eugene Blair, Donna Magee, Dianne McPhail and Wanda Bridges attended the training.

Jamie Brewer, Tax Assessor, submitted 317 new applications for homestead exemption.  The surrendered tag list for April was submitted and changes to the real property tax role.
