The Simpson County Board of Supervisors met for their regular scheduled meeting Monday, June 5, 2023.
All board members were present.
Buddy Wolverton, County Engineer, reported the status of State-Aid & LSSBP as of May 31, 2023
- SAP-64(64)– Grade, drain, base and surface for Star to Braxton. 35% completions with 50% Elapsed time. Contractor to start earthwork operations in June.
- LSBP-64(24)– Bridge Replacement Shorter Road – 90% Complete. 85% Elapsed time. Contractor has completed box bridge, approaches, and seeded site.
- SAP-64(65)– (Bridge Replacement) Dry Creek Road – Ready to advertise. Will open bids on June 12, 2023 at 9:00 a.m.
- LSBP-64(25) – Bridge Replacement Peacock Road – Office Review Plans were mailed to State Aid on July 25, 2022. Mailed out utility agreements, can start right of way acquisition.
- ERBR-64(03) – Bridge Replacement Saratoga- Sharon Road – Have issued Notice to Proceed.
- ERBR – 64(04) – Bridge Rehabilitation Harrisville – Braxton Road – 70% Complete 850% Elapse time. Contractor completing bridge.
- 2022 Simpson County Resurfacing Project – Roads 1A-5O – 65% Completed and 98% Elapsed time. Contractor making repairs and chip sealing roads.
- SAP-64(17) M – (Guardrails) Old River Road – P.S.& E. Assembly mailed to State Aid January 3, 2023.
Ben Warren Road Manger report for the month of May was approved by the board. Warren expressed the hardship of retaining employees with the private sector paying higher salaries.
Chancery Clerk Tim Gray asked the board to acknowledge and record the certificates for Justice Court Judges, Ted Blakeney and Charles Savell, for attending the 2023 Justice Court Judges Spring Hybird conference.
Gray asked the board to approved the Simpson County School Board 16 section leases for Ellen Bennett.
Tax Assessor, Jamie Brewer, asked the board to approve a tax exemption for Howard Industries and Vestra.
Supervisors certified the annual inspection of the Simpson County Jail.
Sheriff Paul Mullins presented the following report for approval:
- Tiffany Rutland and Sharon Fewell to attend Tactical Dispatcher June 13-14 at Collins, MS at a cost of $300.00 each
- National Organized Crime Information Center membership renewal for June 2023-June 2024 in the amount of $300.00Summit Food Services invoice for May in the amount of $27,007.15
- Cederick Crosby part-time jail, James Foster new hire sheriff deputy, and Leon Hutson new hire sheriff deputy
County Resident Rev. Cranford Wheeler met before the board expressing his concerns about the condition of River Road. Per Cranford the road is in bad shape and in need of repairs immediately. The board heard the concerns and will take the matter under advisement.
Charlie Welch updated the board on various construction projects.
The courthouse project is on scheduled. Construction is happening on weekends with good weather to stay ahead of the project.
Trustee Hall is on scheduled for July completion.
Simpson County Lake opened Saturday, June 3, 2023, allowing fishing for youth age
up to 15. Over two hundred people came with 100 bank fishers and 20 boats. The lake is scheduled to open Wednesday, June 7 at 6:00 a.m.
County Administrator Rhuel Dickerson read and reminded the board of the budget and expenditures restrictions and what actions could and could not be taken during these last six months of an election for supervisor.
