Simpson County Board of Supervisors opened the September 3, 2019 meeting with prayer by Danny Welch.
County Engineer Buddy Wolverton updated the Board on the status of state aid, federal aid, LSBP and ERBR projects as of August 31, 2019.
Roads Manager Ben Warren presented the roads managers monthly report for approval.
The sheriff’s department requested the following approval:
- Annie Robinson to attend jail CAMA Conference in Richmond,VA. The registration cost is $200.00. The board approved request plus hotel for October 19-22, 2019.
- Dispatchers Amanda Weathersby and Austin Moore to attend an eight-hour Human Trafficking Course on October12, 2019 at the Magee Civic Center. The cost of the class is $150.00 each.
The following payroll was approved for the sheriff’s department:
- Brittany Walker moving form part time certified dispatch to full-time certified dispatch.
- Adrain Durr an increase from part-time, non-certified jail to full-time, non-certified jail.
- Brenda Ann Cooley as a new hire part-time certified jail.
- Kevin Freeman moves from a full-time non-certified deputy to a full-time certified deputy.
The board took under advisement the approval of CARFAX for Police with the Sheriff’s Department. Investigator Chris Wallace along with Sheriff Greg Reynolds discussed the advantages and desires for the program. The board agreed to look at proposal and advise at the next board meeting.
Chancery Clerk, Tommy Joe Harvey, requested the approval for the application for certification for authority to expend the one (1) Mill according to section 27-39-329(b), Miss. Code of 1972 as Amended. The board approved the request.
Harvey presented the board Simpson County School Board leases for approval. The 2018 Public Utility Roll was approved.
The board approved the claims docket presented by County Administrator Rhuel Dickinson.
The board also approved:
- Mandatory annual Drug Free Workplace and Safety Training to be held on September 9, 2019, at various times for all employees with mandatory attendance.
- Allowing Colonial Insurance to present options to save employees money on the cost of employee deductions insurance products. Colonial representative will present to employees on on September 9, 2019 and AFLAC will present to employees on September 12, 2019.
- Purchase of 2 Fujitsu Scanners for the Circuit Clerk’s office to replace old worn out scanners in the amount of $2,183.00.
- Advertising county resources in the Mississippi Supervisors Magazine for September 2019 through August 2020. ($300.00 1/2 page black and white).
- Renewal of the Sonicwall Internet Firewall in the amount of $1,612.00.
- Approve annual membership dues for Amanda Blakeney
- Mississippi Extension Association Family and Consumer Sciences (MEAFCS) $120.00
- Mississippi Association 4-H Agents (MAE4-HA) $100.00
- Mississippi Association of County Agriculture Agents (MACAA) $100.00
