The Simpson County Board of Supervisors held its first meeting of the 2025–2026 fiscal year on Monday, October 6, 2025. Board President Danny Craft called the meeting to order, followed by an opening prayer led by Danny Welch and the Pledge of Allegiance.

Minutes from the September 2025 meeting were approved.

Justice Court Report

Justice Court Clerk Joyce Ann Hicks presented the Third Quarterly Report for July through September 2025:

July Cases

  • Pleas: 393

  • Trials: 100

  • Civils: 98

  • Past Dues: 87

  • Total: 678

August Cases

  • Pleas: 521

  • Trials: 93

  • Civils: 83

  • Past Dues: 131

  • Total: 828

September Cases

  • Pleas: 393

  • Trials: 98

  • Civils: 84

  • Past Dues: 122

  • Total: 697

The report was submitted by Joyce Hicks, Court Clerk, on October 6, 2025.

County Engineer’s Report

County Engineer Greg Bonds informed the board that his office is coordinating with multiple agencies entering the county to install fiber lines and conduct digging operations. A detailed log and system count of all participating agencies are being maintained. Daniel Ferguson will assist in managing and tracking this list.

Road Department Report

Road Manager Jeremy Bolton requested permission to advertise for the purchase of two dual-axle garbage trucks, noting that bids should exclude the Freightliner M2 and International engine (FORCE) models.

New personnel actions included:

  • Nicholas Smith, hired as CDL Driver

  • Ricky Grubbs, promoted from part-time to full-time

Bolton also reported:

  • MDOT issued a permit to William Walker for an 18×38-inch culvert installation on Highway 469 in Harrisville

  • The spraying contract has been renewed

  • The Dewitt Flynt Bridge is open

  • The chip seal project is complete

  • The ditching project is approximately 85% complete

Tax Assessor’s Report

Tax Assessor Jamie Brewer presented several updates:

  • The Solid Waste credit report

  • The 2020–2025 delinquent mobile home list

  • 2024 county and city delinquent tax lists

  • Lands acquired from the tax sale

  • September surrendered tag report

  • An application for a one-mill increase for the 2025–2026 fiscal year

Additional Notes

Board President Danny Craft reminded members of the invitation to attend the City of Magee Fire Banquet scheduled for Thursday evening at 6:30 p.m. at Berry’s Seafood Restaurant.

County Administrator Charlie Welch also presented his routine report before the board entered Executive Session to conclude the meeting.


With no additional business, the meeting was adjourned with an Executive meeting to follow
