Friday night, September 30th was a great night for football! Cool weather and a great crowd provided the perfect setting for the two Cougar teams to meet…Simpson Academy and Central Hinds.
Even though this was not a district game, the two teams took the field to win! With 9:25 left in the first quarter, #2 Kyle Burney scored the first TD of the night and #24 Gryson Scott made the point after making the score 7-0.
Central Hinds wasted no time in scoring with 6:05 still left in the first quarter. The extra point was good which tied the game at 7-7.
Bryce Caughman return the second kick off to the 35 yard line…and on the next play, CH intercepts!
This quarter was filled with turnovers. Bryce Caughman intercepted a pass with 4:20 still on the clock for the first quarter.
The drive was incomplete as CH intercepts and scores a TD with 19 seconds left.
Penalties hurt both teams. With 3:51 left until half CH scores. End of the first half of play SCA 7-CH 14.
SCA began the second half of play moving the ball with 8:14 on the clock. Simpson scores but snap for extra point was high…point after no good…score SCA 13-CH 14.
#6 Caleb Garner for SCA recovers a fumble and runs ball back for a TD…point after good…SCA leads 23-14.
By the end of the third quarter SCA scores again and the extra point by Gryson Scott was good. Simpson 30 and Central Hinds 14.
Fourth quarter action began early with a touchdown by #2 Kyle Burney. SCA pulls even further ahead 37-14.
With 6:49 left of the clock SCA kick a field goal making the final score 40-14.
Outstanding offensive plays were made by Kyle, Matthew, and Austin Burney. #1 Dyllan Hollman had a great offensive game with multiple carries for positive yardage. Also playing well was #12 Bryce Caughman.
SCA is bless with several good defensive players! To name a few: #66 Noah Magee, #22 Andrew Kennedy,#55 Jared Bridges, #6 Caleb Garner, #64 Austin Teater, and #58 Daniel Pepper.
Next week, SCA plays a district game at home facing Columbia.
