Simpson Academy Shines in 3-2 Volleyball Victory

Simpson Academy’s volleyball team gave fans a thrilling finish on Tuesday night, defeating Winston Academy 3-2 on Senior Night.

The hard-fought match went down to the wire, with the Lady Cougars battling through momentum shifts before finally securing the win in the deciding set. The victory marked not only a big step for the program but also a memorable send-off for Simpson’s seven seniors who have been leaders on and off the court.

Honoring the Seniors

The Class of 2025 has left its mark on Simpson volleyball:

  • Jacy Mitchell #7
  • Olivia Monk #14
  • Caroline East #17
  • Elizabeth Rushing #21
  • Genevieve Grubbs #30

Each senior has played a crucial role in the growth of the volleyball program, providing leadership and determination that inspired younger teammates.

Full Varsity Roster

The Cougars are coached by Emma Cockrell, with a roster that includes:
Hadlee Nichols #1, Avery Barry #5, Addison Barry #6, Jacy Mitchell #7, Lyla Cockrell #8, Swayze Tuggle #9, Kaley Pollan #11, Eva Dye #13, Olivia Monk #14, Caroline East #17, Elizabeth Rushing #21, and Genevieve Grubbs #30.

Growing the Program

Volleyball is a relatively new sport at Simpson Academy but has quickly become one of the most competitive and spirited athletic programs at the school. Known for their resilience, the 12 Cougars never back down and fight until the final point.

As Coach Cockrell shared, the team’s grit and energy have been the driving force behind their success.

Tuesday night was not only about the victory but also about celebrating how far the sport has come at Simpson—and the seniors who helped make it possible.
