PRESS RELEASE

On Thursday, March 19th, 2020 at approximately 3:55pm Magee Police Department received a call reporting shots being fired in the area of Washington Park and the Goodwater Community.  Officers immediately responded and were on scene within minutes.  One officer stopped a vehicle described by callers as a vehicle fleeing the scene and discovered the passenger in the vehicle was the victim of the shooting.  The officer assisted the driver in placing the victim into his marked patrol unit and was able to drive him to the hospital where he began receiving treatment.  Other officers soon developed several persons of interest after speaking with witnesses.  While the victim was at the hospital, he was able to give officers the identity of the suspect.  Several people were brought to the Magee Police Department and detained for questioning.  The suspect named by the victim was located by the Simpson County Sheriff’s Department a few hours later.  Simpson deputies transported the suspect to the Magee Police Department where he was booked and held in the Magee City Jail.

The suspect has been charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon and other charges.  The victim is reportedly still in the hospital, but in stable condition.

The Magee Police Department would like to thank the Simpson County Sheriff’s Department along with the Smith County Sheriff’s Department for their assistance in this case.

No other information (to include names) is being released at this time.
