Sharing Life with Bob

Sometimes you just hear a name and a face (memory) pops in your brain!  Sometimes, you hear the word Bob…and think “Jane and Bob.”

My lifelong friend, Bob Everett, died Saturday morning as his precious wife set by his bedside.

Before I start on Bob, just let me say this about Jane.  She was devoted to her husband…she loved her husband…and supported him in all his endeavors. The pair always greeted everyone with a smile.  My heart hurts for Jane and their precious family.  Even when we know someone is better off in death…the hurt is no less.

Back to Bob:  I have known Bob all my life. He was one grade behind me in school…I cheered when he played football.  We never walked out of one another’s life.  Like me, Bob settled in Magee…and here we have been for 74 years.

I don’t think I’ve ever known such a giving man.  There wasn’t anyone he would not help.  He always had a heart for others.  My goodness, I guess he has cooked for groups in Magee longer than anyone.  In fact, the Magee Fire Department made him an honorary fireman!  Through coaching, he touched the lives of numerous young men and women.  He was a giver—of his time and assets.  His years on Main Street owning Bob’s Athletic Center kept him in the loop with all ages…he helped them all.

I will always remember how good he was to my boys…(who spent many hours checking out the merchandise)!  When Larkin and Gilbert died, he and Jane stood firm with me.

I imagine almost everyone in Magee has a Bob story…and they are all good!

What an honor and privilege to have been his friend.  Bob made an everlasting mark in Magee.  He will never be forgotten and forever loved.
