Second Annual Children’s Center Classic Exceeds Fundraising Goal
The Children’s Center for Communication and Development at The University of Southern Mississippi exceeded its goals for The 2nd Annual Children’s Center Classic 10K, 5K and 1-Mile Fun Run with more than $35,000 raised and 340 participating runners.
“We are floored with the outpouring of community support,” said Sarah Case-Price, executive director. “The Center is doing remarkable things in the lives of children with significant communication and developmental disabilities. But we couldn’t do any of those things without continued support from our community.”
The Children’s Center provides a comprehensive early intervention services to children, ages birth to 5, with complicated communication and development disabilities.
Runners of all ages participated in both 10K and 5K routes through campus, with the youngest of runners participating in a fun run around Reed Green Coliseum. Back at Pride Field, participants were also able to take part in a carnival hosted by this year’s provisional class with the Junior Auxiliary of Hattiesburg. Live music was provided by Wes J and the Shifters.
“It takes a lot of people to create an event of this nature, and we are so thankful to every person and business who stepped up to donate, volunteer or run,” said Case-Price. “We look forward to setting the date for next year’s race and seeing how we can grow year over year.”
