In May of 2019, the Simpson County School Board approved the creation of a Leadership Academy Program designed to support building level and district level leaders in their efforts to increase students’ academic achievement throughout the entire district. 15 leaders were selected to participate in the Leadership Academy’s 1st Cohort. These leaders completed 20 hours of rigorous leadership training on Saturdays throughout this school year. The 5 goals of the Leadership Academy are as follows:

  1. Increase the academic achievement of all students by building the capacity of the instructional leader.
  2. Ensure that leaders know effective instruction and assessment and use this knowledge to strengthen teaching.
  3. Build honest and effective relationships with students, parents, teachers, and community members.
  4. Ensure leaders know how to use data and systemic processes to affect the whole school.
  5. Build positive and supportive school cultures that yields high academic performance, effective collaboration and meaningful community relations.
