On Saturday, September 21st and Monday, September 23rd, the Simpson Academy Lady Cougar softball team will host the Division AAAA South State Tournament at the Magee Sportsplex.
Coming off back-to-back State Championship titles, the young Lady Cougar team finished out the regular season with a record of 21 wins and 9 losses with seventh grader Carson Smith leading the charge off the mound.
The Lady Cougars will face Silliman Institute in their opening game at 10am on Saturday. If they can pull out two wins on Saturday, the Lady Cougars will seal their spot in the State Tournament which will also be held at the Magee Sportsplex the following weekend.
This weekend’s AAAA South State tournament will include teams from Hartfield Academy, Hillcrest Christian School, Simpson Academy, Park Place Christian School, Brookhaven Academy, Silliman Institute, Oak Forrest Academy, and Cathedral School.
This year’s Lady Cougar team is made up of two seniors: Allison Richardson and Kristin Busby, one junior: Maddie Moody, two sophomores: ZyKeria Cole and Haley Roberts, six freshmen: Gracie Giordano, MaNia Womack, Olivia Banes, Kaitlyn Butler, Chloe Peterson and Clara Grace Jensen, four eighth graders: Natalie Styron, Sydney Kate Russell, Olivia Hodom and Avery Crain, seven seventh graders: Carson Smith, Montgomery Boleware, Anna Joy Blaine, Avery Vanderford, Emma Wallace, Ava Dunn and Elizabeth Keith, and two sixth graders: Jayda Smith and Caroline East.
The 2019 Lady Cougars are coached by head coach, Adam Evans who is in his seventh season. He is assisted by Lacye Evans, Jeff Wedgeworth and former Simpson Softball standout, Bailey Sartin.
The Lady Cougars would love to see you all out to support their efforts this Saturday as they battle for the South State title.
