Sca Headmaster Billy Wayne Hankins informed the patrons of Simpson Academy of his decision to retire at the end of the 2020 School Year.  Mr. Hankins has been employed at SCA for 20 years as well as a graduate of Simpson Academy.

  1. Billy Wayne informed the school’s patrons through an email sent on Friday, January 17, 2020.  He has accepted a position at Copiah Academy as the Athletic Director and Head Football Coach.  Mitch Mitchell is the Headmaster at Copiah Academy and a personal friend of Billy Wayne.

  3. We at MageeNews.com appreciate Mr. Hankins and the work he has done with Simpson as well as his continued Cooperation with MageeNews.com.

I hope all of you are doing well.   I have informed the board that after 20 years of being employed full-time at Simpson, this will be my last year as Headmaster.  My contract ends at the end of the school year.  Please know that I am not mad at anyone, no one has pressured me out, and I am not sick.  Being the Headmaster at SCA has been the most rewarding experience of my life.   I love this school.   I hope and pray my grandchildren go here and I will be a supporter as long as I can.  We have accomplished so much over the last 7 years.  Many of you know the improvements that have been made.   Some of the positives I am most proud of include: improving the physical plant, improving technology, wireless internet on campus, beautification of campus,  improved curriculum, outstanding faculty, strong discipline, more emphasis on academics, more college courses offered through Co-lin, students now can attend the Vo-Tech, increased ACT scores, implemented ACT Aspire testing, data driven teaching, record enrollment, and increased financial stability. Those are just some of the improvements that have been made over these past 7 years with the help of positive and proactive parent involvement.

I knew at Thanksgiving this would be my last year.  During Christmas break my friend Mitch Mitchell was named Head of School at Copiah Academy.  He called me in search of possible recommendations for a new football coach.  Through the course of the conversation I told him I was retiring as headmaster and he then asked if I would be interested in coaching again.  Coaching is one of my loves.  He is giving me the opportunity to just coach football which will let me stay involved with kids but also give me more free time.   However, he knows I will be here for the remainder of the school year.

I plan to close out the remainder of the year by working as hard as ever.  SCA currently has one of the best school boards that we have ever had, and I am fully confident that they will find the right person to lead SCA into the future.  This school has and will always be home for me.  Thanks for your support.

Sincerely,

Billy W. Hankins
