Prentiss Christian had its’ home opener Friday night as they hosted the Warriors of Clinton Christian Academy. The Warriors opened the game with a low flying kick taken by Michael Goddard at the 16 yard line and returned to the 35 of the Saints. An inadvertent facemask penalty moved it to the 40 yard line. It only took the Saints six plays to find the end zone on an 8 yard run by Austin Daughdrill. The PAT by Josh Daley was good giving PC a quick 7-0 lead with 8:59 in the first quarter. Daley’s following kickoff was taken at the CCA 19 yard line and returned to the 25 yard line. Clinton had a good on gain on the first play, but Kash Miller stepped in front of the first pass and returned it for a defensive Saints touchdown. Daley’s PAT missed making the score 13-0 with 8:29 left in the first quarter. Daley’s next kickoff was downed on the 35 yard line. The Warriors progressed up to the 44 yard line, but a sack by Ned Sanders cost CCA 9 yards and forced a 4th down. The Warrior punt sailed 36 yards and was returned 7 yards by Eric Powell to the Saints 36 yard line. A 51 yard run on third down by Blake Greenlee and a 7 yard reception by Powell set up Daughdrill’s second touchdown of the evening from the 6 yard line. Daley’s PAT was again off making the score 19-0 at the 4:28 mark in the first quarter. Daley kicked off 33 yards and the Warriors were tackled at the 36 after a 9 yard return. CCA moved the ball up to the 46 for a first down, but the Saints had given all they were going to give and forced the Warriors backwards to the 44. CCA elected to punt, but pressure from the defensive line forced a short 16 yard punt out of bounds at the Saints 40 yard line as the quarter expired. Four plays later, Greenlee hit Daley on a 33 yard touchdown pass. Daley followed up with a successful PAT making the score 26-0 early in the second quarter. Daley’s kickoff went all the way to the Warrior 21 yard line and good coverage cost CCA 6 more yards on the return. A hard sack by Blaise Holder on second down cost the Warriors 8 more yards leading up to a fourth down punt from the 3 yard line. The punt was blocked by Kolbe Verdun and picked up in the end zone by Miller for another Saints touchdown. Daley’s PAT hit the mark again giving PCS a 33-0 lead with 9:54 to play in the first half. A 34 yard kick and a 4 yard return gave the Warriors the ball on the 30 yard line. After a 2 yard gain on first down, Jack Chavis forced a fumble that was recovered by Daughdrill on the CCA 25 yard line. The Saints elected to remove their starting offensive players and offer opportunities to the younger players. PCS was able to move the ball to the 16 yard line before being halted by CCA. Daley attempted a 33 yard field goal but missed to the left turning the ball over to the Warriors. Four plays later, the Warriors elected to punt back to the Saints. Dathan Dungan fielded the punt on the Saints’ 40 yard line. Consecutive runs by Taylor Barrett moved the ball to the 49 yard line, but a loss of 1 on third down led to a Greenlee 50 yard punt for touchback. After starting from the 20 yard line, the Warriors had success on a good run out to the Saints 48 yard line. Three straight runs for loss ended the half.

The second half began with a Daley kickoff and an immediate tackle at the 25 yard line. On first down Powell intercepted the Warrior pass and returned it for a touchdown. Daley’s PAT was missed, but the touchdown set the mercy rule into action and would keep the clock moving for the remainder of the game. 16 seconds into the second half, the Saints led by a score of 39-0. PCS did not allow a first down in the second half of action. Unfortunately, they were unable to gain a first down either. What they were able to do was offer considerable amounts of playing time on offense and defense for all of their varsity players in grades 10-12. The Saints host the Rebels of Amite School Center this Friday night in a non-conference matchup.
