Robert Lee “Shorty” Stubbs, 91, of Magee passed away on October, 23rd, 2015 at Magee General Hospital. Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 25, 2015 from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Magee. Funeral services celebrating his life will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, October 26, 2015 at First United Methodist Church in Magee. Bro. Tommy Jennings will officiate. Burial will be in Sharon Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Magee is in charge of arrangements, (601)849-5031.
“Shorty” was born to Jimmie and Erma Maddox Stubbs on January 31, 1924. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Mary Ellen Stubbs, sisters Nell McMullan of Baton Rouge, La., and Erma Lee Harmon of Hattiesburg, Ms. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews as well as great, great nieces and nephews. He was predeceased in death by his parents, brothers; Nevius, Lincoln and Billy and sisters; Geneva Currie and Inez Tynes.
Mr. Stubbs served in the U.S. Army Air Corp during World War II as radio operator on a B-29 Superfortress stationed at Tinian Island in the Pacific, was a life-long resident of Magee where he held various positions with the U.S. Postal Service; and retired as Postmaster after 30 years of service. He was also a life-long member of Magee First United Methodist Church and a member of the T.J. Burnham Sunday School class.
