Funeral services for Mr. Robert Howard “Jack” Flynt will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, September 30, 2023, at Shiloh Baptist Church in Mount Olive. Mr. Flynt departed this life and entered his heavenly home on Sunday, September 24, 2023, at his home near Mt. Olive surrounded by his family at the age of 91. Brother Dewitt Bain, Brother Michael Miller, and Brother Steve Clark will officiate, and interment will follow in the Shiloh Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Matthew Windham, Channing Bucklew, Alex Bucklew, Jackson Flynt, Andrew Pierce, and Michael Jenkins.
Wade Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Born in the Great Depression on March 10, 1932, to Benjamin Luther and Jewel McLeod Flynt of Mt. Olive, his experiences during those hard times helped mold his character as a hard worker with a compassionate spirit.
He was a loving father, husband, grandfather, uncle, cousin, and friend. He will be missed greatly, but his legacy will live on through his family and work for the Lord.
Mr. Flynt was a devoted member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and treasurer for many years. He enjoyed spending time with his family, telling stories, reading, taking care of his animals, as well as farming and tending to his homeplace.
Jack Flynt was a farmer and businessman, most remembered as the owner and proprietor of Flynt’s General Merchandise. For over 25 years, he served the public as Supervisor of Beat 5 in Covington County. Jack Flynt was extremely proud of the many accomplishments the board directed during his service, some of those included the building of several bridges, the improvement and paving of county roads, and the building of the County Multi-Purpose Building in the Collins Industrial Park. The county’s fire departments benefited from Jack Flynt’s leadership in helping provide new fire trucks for each department. Mr. Flynt served as President of the Covington County Board of Supervisors until his retirement.
Mr. Flynt was a veteran of the United States Air Force who cared deeply for his country. He was the rock of the Flynt family—faithful in all walks of life.
He was reunited with Patricia Lee Flynt, his wife of more than 60 years, his parents, and his son-in-law, David Windham.
Survivors include his 3 daughters, Teresa Ann Flynt Windham of Magee, Ginger Kay (Denny) Bucklew of Louisville, and Robin Hope (Wayne) Ingram of Mount Olive; one son, Benjamin Lee “Ben” (Lane) Flynt of Mount Olive; nine grandchildren; Matthew “Zip” (Meggan) Windham of Magee, Lauren Windham (Andrew) Pierce of Magee, Channing ( Hannah) Bucklew of Brandon, Alex (Devan) Bucklew of Madison, Ericka Hope Ingram of Madison, Lakelan Flynt (Michael) Jenkins of Collins, Anna Claire Bucklew of Flowood, Gracie Ingram of Brandon, and Jackson “Jack” Flynt of Mount Olive; 7 great-grandchildren, Harper Pierce, Mary Blake Pierce, John Prince Windham, Asher Windham, Magnolia “Nola” Grace Windham, Mila Elizabeth Bucklew & William Flynt “Liam” Bucklew; and 2 sisters -in-laws, Jo (Paul Miller)King of Mize, and Carolyn (Billy) Monk of Collins; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held Friday, September 29, 2023, from 5:00pm until 8:00pm at Shiloh Baptist Church and Saturday from 10:00am until service time.
