It is with great pride that I announce the graduation of Brandon Johnston from Mississippi State University with a Bachelor of Science in Civil and Environmental Engineering!!! Brandon “walks” on Friday!
Many of you know that Brandon started working with me when he was 13! He is now 23! Although the last couple of years he has not been “on site” working, he has never left the fold.
At age 13, Brandon and several of his FBC youth group came to my house to mow my yard. I was their service project! At this point in time, I was recovering from a stroke, just beginning MageeNews, and retiring from the post office due to health reasons. Gwen mentioned that Brandon would help me anytime if I needed him. Wrong thing to tell me!!!! With no sons living at home, I gained a new son. My “real” boys always said I loved Brandon more than I did them.
When Brandon, (I would say starting working for me but its more like started taking care of me), he didn’t have a drivers license. He didn’t have a cell phone. He didn’t have a girlfriend! Brandon’s work ethic is unbelievable. He does his job and more. I didn’t have to plan or figure out what needed to be done!
Several years ago, we went into business together. Local News Online is the company that actually has the TVS in eleven businesses. We had no idea what we were doing…but we had an idea and a plan and went forward. Brandon and his dad hung TVS. He sold advertisements. He did books. He did it all.
After high school graduation, Brandon decided to attend Co-Lin before moving on to MS State. He told me he was going to Co-Lin so he could help take care of me…sure, I knew it was, at that time, all about a girl named Avery. Brandon and Avery are still a number…and hopefully one day I’ll be sitting in a “grandma” place at his wedding.
Thank you Brandon for being the fine gentleman you are. Brandon may be kind and considerate but he is tough as nails and will not put up with any mess. We decorated floats together…we started the “Mooie Looie” together….and we’re still together in business.
Congratulations upon your completion of another goal in your life….and…he already has a job!!!
You make me proud. MSU Class of 2017.
Brandon is the “real” son of Dan and Gwen Johnston and brother to Ashlyn
