Magee Board of Alderman entered into a contract with Brett Duncan of Charles Prince, CPA firm Tuesday, March 16, 2021 during their regular board meeting.
Duncan will help to reconcile bank statements from the previous year and advise the board financially.
Dr. Miller with ASAP reported the last six months of activity with the ambulance service. A total of 2600 calls have been received. ASAP averages 14 calls a day and of these 9-10 are emergency calls. The average response time is 14:23. Response time was different during the month of February due to the ice storm and inability to travel the roads in a timely manner due to ice and debris.
The Mayor advised the new state flags have arrived and are now on display within the city.
Magee will host a large tournament March 27th, with teams from 8 different states participating.
The contract with Headrick signs is good. The city is in search of the name of the Eagle Scout who completed the flower bed around the “Shop Local” billboard located on Hwy 49 South bound lane. Anyone with information regarding this, please contact City Hall at 601-849-3344.
The city has approved to apply for a grant at the airport to change out the lightning and build an electrical shop. The grant would be 100%.
Mayor Berry announced the Senior Center located at the old YMCA building is now ready for service. The city is working on having an open house and will announce the date in the coming days.
Mike Rowe with Discovery Channel has asked the City of Magee to participate in a filming segment while the city is cleaning out one of the water tanks. The city is awaiting the contract to be viewed and approved.
Another filming crew would like to film a segment of “Scoop It & Hoop It” at McNair Springs in Magee April 24 or 28th. This is a film similar to The Great American Race. The filming would be two groups navigating a tube course while throwing foam balls into nets along the way.
The 4-H Summer Walking program will take place at the Magee Walking track. The walking program is sponsored by MSU Extension Walk-A-Weigh Program. Research has shown that long-term weight control requires physical activity of at least 30 – 60 minutes per day. Participants will sign a liability wavier prior to the program and fill out a registration form on enrollment day. To register, please call the MSU Extension office 601-847-1335 by March 31, 20021. Session will be held Monday – Friday at the Magee Walking Track.
Mayor Berry sent his condolence to the family of James Peden and remembered him for his service to the fire department and zoning board over the years. He will be missed greatly.
Berry recognized Johnathan Pierce with Apex during National Athletic Trainer Month and thanked him for all the work he does with the schools in are surrounding area.
Hugh Dillmore advised the board the city and county had worked together to move dirt to the limb pit. Over 100 loads have been moved and the pit was close to 75% capacity. The brick wall at the city park had been removed. The city will do repair work to the picnic tables.
