Police Chief Chris Jones came before the Mayor and Board of Aldermen Tuesday night, February 15, 2022, requesting changes to the present city gun ordinance.
“Presently, the reckless or unwarranted discharge of a firearm in the City of Magee is no more than a nuisance,” stated Jones.
The Chief presented the Mayor and Aldermen with an updated gun ordinance that he feels should be considered for adoption.
If the new ordinance is in-acted, a violation of the ordinance shall be a misdemeanor and shall be punished by a fine of not more than $1,000.00 or 90 days in jail, or both.
According to Chief Jones, “our agency believes that making this act a violation would greatly reduce the risk to citizens and Officers.”
The Board has taken the matter under advisement.

No sir! Beg to disagree! There are plenty of unconstitutional gun laws already on the books that you can use to stop this problem. What you are proposing will do nothing! I’m all in favor of stopping the shooting that’s going on in Magee and elsewhere but this isn’t the way!!
