Pastor Gene W. Amason departed this life February 27, 2015. Pastor Gene was born to R.O. and Verna Jewel Amason of Mt. Olive April 28, 1947. He grew up in the Sanford community, Shady Grove (Laurel) and Harrisville.

On August 10, 1969, he married his sweetheart, Anne Magee Amason of Magee. Pastor Gene was a graduate of Harrisville High School and William Carey College. After graduating from college, he taught junior high history and science before entering the business world, working with hospitals in Orlando, Florida. In 1993, he left the world of business and accepted the call of God to plant Church Alive in Magee, Mississippi. In 2011, he went on to plant a second campus of Church Alive in Pearl, Mississippi. As a true “pastor”, Pastor Gene’s strengths were pastoring people lovingly and teaching the Word. Pastor Gene was energized by passion for the ministry, seeing souls come into the Kingdom, and loving his children and grandchildren.

Pastor Gene is survived by his wife, Anne Magee Amason; his two children, Angela Joy Kjellstrom (Kurt) and Gene Ware Amason II (Regina); four grandchildren, Kiley Bree Kjellstrom, Macy-Kate Kjellstrom, Finley Joy Kjellstrom and Cash Gates Amason; his sisters, Kathy Whittington (Mark), Jeanette Ballard (Bo); many nieces and nephews and spiritual sons and daughters.  He was preceded in death by his daughter, Alisha Anne Amason; father, Rufus Odell Amason; mother, Verna Jewel Amason, and father-in-law, Robert S. Magee.

As a husband, father, grandfather, family man, pastor, and friend, Gene Amason daily demonstrated in real and practical ways a love for God with all his soul, mind, and strength. He had a love for others regardless of their station in life or ethnic background. As a servant of Christ, he exemplified serving others.

“Well done, Pastor Gene, good and faithful servant.”

Visitation will be held Monday, March 2, 2015 from 6pm-8pm at Church Alive in Magee. His funeral service will be held Tuesday, March 3, 2015 at 11am at Church Alive with interment to follow at Sharon Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Church Alive Renovation Fund in memory of Pastor Gene.

    A true man of God, Pastor Gene has touch so many lives, including my own. He always had the ability to see the best in everyone. The loving,caring, and gracious man we were fortunate enough to know will forever be in our hearts.
