A team that no one thought had a chance at the beginning of the 2023 football season showed us all! Although the Cougars lost in the Championship Game, we still believe in our team.
Behind a “full size” line (check out the main picture to get an idea of the size of those Rebel lineman), the Adams County Christian Rebels presented an almost unstoppable quarter back and runner who if they got only one step ahead… burned up the field.
The Natchez, MS team was tough and loud…they may have lacked sportsmanship …but they got the win!
ACCHS scored in the first quarter but failed on the 2 point extra point conversion. The second quarter saw another Rebel score…no extra point.
In the second half, the Cougars got on the board with 7 points. The Rebels scored 3 touchdowns in the third quarter. The Cougars racked up 22 points in the 4th quarter with ACCHS answering with 14 points. The final score was 47-29.
The young Cougar team never gave up defending a team that averaged 35.7 points per game.Although there were questionable calls all night, the Rebels solidly defeated the Cougars.
Meeting on a manicured turf neutral field, Jackson Academy was an outstanding host for this year’s playoff games.
The 2023 Cougars will graduate 4 players…the 2024 team should be solidly staffed. (Seniors: #50-Devan Drennan; #51-Will Smith; #77-Joseph Kilpatrick; and #57-Tristan Freeman)
In the words of SCA alumni Chris Caughman: “What a fun ride that was this year for the Cougars. We got beat last night by a very talented ACCS team but I think last night resembled the season in a way. We fell behind, things weren’t going our way, most teams would have shut it down, but not this Cougar team! They kept fighting, they kept battling, they just competed like “dirt bags” until the final horn sounded! They made all us Cougars proud!! Sometimes it is not about the end game but about the journey and this team was a prime example of that! And lastly, WOW Simpson County showed up huge last night packing the stands and more down the sides without seats! Nobody gets support like SCA sports!!! On to Hoops!!”
Congratulations to Head Coach Todd Mangum and his staff.
