The Board of Aldermen and Mayor met Tuesday @ 8 AM to discuss the police department situation.  Six officers resigned Friday:  Chris Jones, Billy Seghini, Sean Cooper, Mike Grubbs, Walter Burkett, and Jamie Burkett (dispatcher).  Cody Blakney resigned Monday.

Aldermen present:  Mark Grubbs, Patrick Brown, Lane Steele, and Sue Honea.  Alderman Matthew Hickman was absent.  City attorney Marc McMillian was present as well as City Clerk Jon Styron.

Several interested citizens as well as news media were present for the meeting.  Mayor Berry called the meeting to order.. The Mayor informed those present that the Board would enter an executive session to discuss police personal matters.  Alderman Sue Honea made the motion to enter executive session and Mark Grubbs seconded.

Upon adjournment from Executive Session, Mayor Berry informed the public that an interim chief could not be appointed at this time because Chris Jones is still employed as Chief  until March 4, 2022.

The Mayor assured the public all police shifts are covered.

The Board will meet at 5 o’clock on Monday for a work shop and Tuesday the first for the regular board meeting of the month.
