It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Nina Pearl Harvey Smith Rayborn, a beloved mother, grandmother, and cherished member of the Community, who passed away peacefully on January 15, 2025, at the age of 96.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at Santee Methodist Church from 10:30 AM until 11:00 A.M. Funeral services will be at 11:00 on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at Santee Methodist Church with burial to follow in the Santee Methodist Church Cemetery. Colonial Chapel of Magee is in Charge of Arrangements. 601-849-5031.
Nina was born on July 15, 1928, in Scott County, MS, to Charlie Cleat and Fay Daniels Harvey. She was a long time resident of Pearl, MS, before relocating to Bassfield. Throughout her life, she was devoted to her family, her faith, and her community. As a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother, Nina’s heart was full of love for her family, and she cherished her role as a caretaker. She was passionate about working in her garden, cooking for those she loved, and reading her Bible, finding strength and peace in her faith. Nina took immense pride in her work within the church. She was an active member and long-time Sunday school teacher at Pearson Baptist Church before moving to Bassfield, where she became a member of Bethel Baptist Church.
Nina is preceded in death by her first husband, Ralph Smith, her second husband, Marvin Rayborn, her daughter, Fay Graves, her son, Carley Smith, her daughter-in-law, Kathleen Smith, her parents, Charlie Cleat and Fay Daniels Harvey, sisters, Nettie Jean Bradfield and Sara Mae Gatewood; and brother, Roy (Buddy) Harvey.
She is survived by her sons; Kenneth Smith of Bradenton, FL, Grady Smith of Cropwell, AL, and Tommy Rayborn (Kathleen) of Pearl, MS. Nina is also survived by eight grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, five great-great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends who will miss her dearly.
Nina’s life was one of quiet strength, kindness, and unwavering faith. She touched the lives of all who knew her, and her legacy of love and service will continue to inspire those who follow.
Pallbearers will be Leffie Graves, Chris Smith, Gabe Smith, Will Smith, Adam Terrell, Aaron Terrell, Ethan Terrell, and Bo McNeese.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Austin Smith, Adam Montgomery, and Andrew Montgomery.
