Mandy Phillips and Ryan Bain bring solid leadership skills and a heart to serve others as the new leaders of Mississippi College’s Baptist Student Union.

“It is a joy to walk alongside students in such critical years, where they determine their faith is their own, and hopefully work to become disciples that make disciples,” Phillips says.

The BSU director, Phillips was recently elevated to the position after serving in the No. 2 job at the MC chapter since October 2014.

By the time MC students graduate, “we hope they aren’t just prepared for a specific career,” Phillips said. They should also be ready, she said, “to serve and lead the church with the various gifts God has given them.”

Phillips earned her bachelor’s degree in 2000 at William Carey University in Hattiesburg and became the school’s assistant BSU director for one year. She received a master’s in divinity at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary in 2003. The Clinton resident is a former associate director at the LSU Baptist Collegiate Ministry from 2006 to 2011.

Mandy welcomes Bain’s addition to the BSU staff on the Clinton campus in late February. “Ryan is a well-respected alumnus that understands where our students have walked and he desires to see them rise to all the potential God has given them.”

Bain brings “an overwhelming love for the Lord, for people and ministering to college students,” Phillips added.

A 25-year-old native of Water Valley, Bain received his bachelor’s degree in Christian Studies at Mississippi College in 2014. He earned an associate degree in studio art at Northwest Mississippi Community College in Senatobia where he worked as a BSU ministry intern in 2015-16.

Bain stayed actively involved with the BSU as a Mississippi College student. “It is a blessing to be able to serve here again.”
