My Mind is made up,
Don’t confuse me with the Facts!
This is the time of year that brings really hot temperatures, but really delicious fresh vegetables. I love tomatoes, squash, peas, corn, and almost anything else that a garden can produce! Some of my husband’s planting did not turn out like he wanted. On some rows, he got a perfect stand of plants for a little distance and in the middle of the row, there are several skips. He planted the same seed, the same fertilizer, in the same soil, and at the same time! Yet some seeds did not produce!
God’s work is like planting a garden. We teach, preach, witness, sing, write, beg, and do all we can to share God’s love and forgiveness yet is seems that many people do not hear or they ignore the warnings of living a lost life! As we walk the path of life and sow seeds, sometimes the seeds falls on a pathway. A pathway is hardened, compacted soil that gets really hard. If any seeds fall on the pathways, it is not going to take root! Our hearts become as hardened as the soil on the pathways! Jesus explains in Luke 8:12 that “the seeds that fell on the footpath represent those who hear the message, only to have the devil come and take it away from their hearts and prevent them from believing and being saved.”
Do you know any people like this? I know of many with a closed mind, a hard heart and an un-forgiving spirit. My daddy had a plaque in his study that spoke to this condition: “My mind is made up, Don’t confuse me with the facts!” The world has a closed mind and it is not willing to listen. The opposite of a closed mind is an open mind. If we keep doing the same things, the same way, why are we surprised when we get the same results? We need to say to God “I can’t do it on my own. The ways I’ve tried haven’t worked. So I’m going to listen to you and open my heart and mind to your possibilities.”
“The sower went forth to sow his seed: and as he sowed, some fell by the way side; and it was trampled down, and the birds of the air devoured it”. (Luke 8:5, NKJV)
“Get rid of all the filth and evil in your lives, and humbly accept the word God has planted in your hearts, for it has the power to save your souls” (James 1:21 NLT).
