Mrs Jean Ford, mother of former Mayor Jimmy Clyde, died Thursday night at Magee General Hospital.
“Mamaw Jean,” as almost everyone called her, was surrounded by her love ones. Mamaw Jean was 93 celebrating her New Year’s birthday on Sunday, December 31 at the home of Diane McPhail.
Mamaw Jean lived most of her life in Jackson moving to Magee in her later years to be close to her son, her daughter-in-law, and grandchildren. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Magee where she participated in Food for Families. She was a former volunteer at Magee General Hospital for years.
Mamaw Jean has been a resident of Lakeview Assisted Living for several months.
I had so much admiration for Mamaw Jean. She was truly a lady who gave me wonderful advise about growing old. She was a woman of character. She was a woman of substance. She was a woman of wisdom. She was a woman who knew how to make the best of any situation and push forward. Sunday lunches at Diane’s were made better by Mamaw Jean’s presence. She always had a smile on her face and a positive word for everyone. She made people happy just by being at the party! For the last several months at Sunday lunch, Mamaw Jean shared different experiences of her growing up years. Jimmy said he learned more about his mama in the last year than he did in a lifetime.
Special prayers for this sweet family. Losing your mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend isn’t easy…but knowing she left this world smiling and was met with a smile gives me great strength. The Lord is a treasured comfort. We knew where she was going…just as she did. Thank you God for loving your children no matter what age.
Arrangements will be posted.
