Louie 1952 ~2024 Obituary
Mr. Floyd Louis “Louie” Munn, 71, peacefully passed away in the early morning hours Saturday, July 27th surrounded by his family. A celebration of his life will be held at 12:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 30th, 2024 at The First Baptist Church of Mendenhall. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and interment will be held at the Mendenhall Cemetery following the celebration of life.
Louie was the first of four boys born August 21st, 1952, in Mendenhall, MS to Jimmy L. Munn and Sue Thompson. Louie was a storyteller and shared many stories of growing up in Mendenhall with his brothers. He talked about camping out on the sandbars of the Strong River and floating the Pearl River with his dad and brothers. He told us these stories over and over, but we never got tired of listening to them. Louie was a musician who loved music and taught himself how to play the guitar and piano. He started his first band, The Young Revolution, in high school with his brother Larry, but he was known for being the founding member and guitarist of “Th’ Rugby’s.” While attending the University of Southern Mississippi, Louie decided to follow his dream. Th’ Rugby’s hit the road touring across the country, playing rock and roll six nights a week before packing up and traveling to the next location to do another six nights. He toured for close to ten years before coming home to start a family. Most of all Louie was a family man; several years after coming home from the road, Louie was a single father of two young boys, Joey and Michel, when he met the love of his life, Jeanie Marie Munn, who was a single mother of one young boy, Ryan Channell. Louie and Jeanie were married on November 21st, 1986 and shortly after had another boy, Jake Munn. Now married with four boys, Louie was named Vice President of Mississippi Music and moved the family to Petal, MS. Louie and Jeanie devoted their life to their boys, he coached football, basketball, and baseball, and is still known to many in the community as coach. In the summers, they would pack up the camper, set out without a plan, and we would camp our way throughout the country. He built a music room at the house and taught his boys how to play music and helped with the youth church bands at Carterville Baptist Church in Petal, MS.
Louie was a business owner who after leaving MMI, built his company Louie Munn Services with the help of his wife and boys where he touched so many people. He cared deeply about people and is a testament to his success. He kept playing music throughout his life, playing parties, weddings, and gigs all over the South. Most of all he played because he loved it. Every week he got the band together to play at the lake, just to play music. He was so many things to so many people. He would be in New York City or Los Angeles and someone he knew would call his name, he was our Mississippi celebrity. He loved to tell jokes to anyone who would listen. He was stoic and a source of strength in hard times. He set the ultimate example on how to be a good man. He taught his boys how to be men, and do what is right, but most importantly he showed how to be a good husband and treat your wife. He loved life, his wife, his boys and their wives, and grandchildren. Louie’s legacy will live on, his presence will be felt in a song, or in telling a joke. If you close your eyes, you can picture him now smiling and playing a show with a band of angels, and you can bet it’s one hell of a show.
Louie is survived by his wife of 37 years, Jeanie C. Munn. His brothers; Larry Munn and his wife Constance, Lloyd Munn and his wife, Jeanie; Lance Munn and his wife, Wanda. His sons, Joseph Munn and his wife, Sam; Ryan Channell and his wife Patricia; Michel Munn and his wife, Kandice; Jake Munn and his wife, Reagan. And his grandchildren; Charleigh Munn, Jack Channell, Zelma Munn, Audrey Channell, Max Munn, Delce Munn, and Oliver Munn.
