Mississippi’s Proposed Long-Range Transportation Plans

Now Available for Review

JACKSON, MISS., Sept. 17, 2025—The Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) and three of the state’s Metropolitan Planning Organizations (MPOs) are seeking public input on the draft Mississippi Unified Long-Range Transportation Infrastructure Plan 2050 (MULTIPLAN 2050), MDOT’s draft Public Participation Process and Plan 2026 (PPP 2026), and MDOT’s draft Local Consultation Process and Plan 2026 (LCP 2026).

MULTIPLAN 2050 is a coordinated effort to develop MDOT’s statewide long-range transportation plan and long-range plans for the Central Mississippi Planning and Development District MPO, the Hattiesburg-Petal-Forrest-Lamar MPO, and the Gulf Regional Planning Commission MPO. MULTIPLAN 2050 addresses transportation needs over a 25-year horizon and is updated every five years.

The draft PPP 2026 is intended to establish MDOT’s methods for providing the general public and other interested parties with ongoing timely information about transportation issues and the transportation decision-making process. The draft LCP 2026 documents MDOT’s procedures for consulting with non-metropolitan local officials. These processes and plans are reviewed for effectiveness at least every five years.

Interested individuals may review and make formal comments about the draft MULTIPLAN 2050 by visiting https://mdot.ms.gov/multiplan2050 and the draft PPP and LCP 2026 by visiting https://mdot.ms.gov/applications/ppp. The comment period begins Sept. 17 and ends Nov. 5 for MULTIPLAN 2050 and the PPP 2026. The comment period begins Sept. 17 and ends Nov. 16 for the LCP 2026.

Additionally, MDOT and the MPOs are hosting come-and-go community meetings around the state. There, people may review the draft plans with transportation officials and make comments.
