To celebrate & to bring awareness to Mississippi’s Bicentennial anniversary, Sadie Kate Kennedy gave a historical presentation to Mrs Kelli Groover’s first grade class at Simpson Academy, Mendenhall, MS. Sadie Kate was dressed in period attire & spoke about the time period surrounding Mississippi becoming a state on December 10, 1817. She told the children the factual story of her ancestor Isaac Meyers who lived in the New Hebron area of Mississippi during this time period. Sadie Kate also told about her Southern “day dress” costume that was made by her grandmother & Isaac Meyers descendant, Barbara Colson. The children were very enthusiastic and asked Sadie Kate many questions. Sadie Kate ended by giving each child a 20 star US flag in honor of Mississippi becoming the 20th state of the United States of America.
Sadie Kate is the President of the Gerard C. Brandon Society Children of the American Revolution. She is the Organizing Secretary for the Mississippi State Society Children of the American Revolution. Sadie Kate is the homeschooled 16 year old daughter of Brian C. & Audra Kennedy. She is the granddaughter of Shelby & Barbara Colson, Bobbie Kennedy, & the late Jim Kennedy all of Magee, MS.
