High school student-athletes can upgrade their skills at Mississippi College’s July 1 football camp.

MC Choctaws head coach John Bland and his staff will again serve as instructors at the annual activity at Robinson-Hale Stadium. The cost to students is $50.

From drills stressing offense, defense and speed, the camps help teens seeking to enhance their talents before high school games begin in August.

Each summer, Mississippi College hosts a blitz of camps attracting more than 5,000 young people from across the Southeast and other regions. But due to the coronavirus pandemic, many of the programs on the Clinton campus were cancelled. The list includes July’s Super Summer church camps to a five-day residential music camp with faculty instructors.

MC leaders say the Christian university will make health and safety the No. 1 priority for all students, faculty, staff and visitors during the COVID-19 crisis.

The football camp on Wednesday July 1 will last for two hours. Campers are asked to bring cleats and athletic attire along with a parental release form.

In recent years, the Choctaws football staff received camp assistance from coaches at schools like Louisiana-Lafayette, South Alabama and Louisiana-Monroe.

Continuing Education Ken Gilliam released the dates of other sports camps on the Clinton campus designed to attract high school students.

–Volleyball camp is set for July 27-28. The cost is $100.

–Baseball camp will be held July 29. The cost is $100.

–Women’s basketball camp is August 3. The cost is $80.

–Women’s basketball team camp is August 4. The cost is $30 per player. The minimum on a team is ten players. Each year, games are played at the A.E. Wood Coliseum and at the Baptist Healthplex gymnasium.

MC coaching staffs from volleyball, baseball and basketball teams will serve as the instructors.
