Miss Mississippi Roberts Named Finalist for Miss America Honors
Miss Mississippi Hannah Roberts, a recent University of Southern Mississippi graduate, has been named a finalist in both the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) scholarship competition and Quality of Life category at the Miss America Pageant.
USM ‘s “Chemistry Queen” is a biochemistry graduate, national Goldwater Scholarship winner and a former Honors College student at Southern Miss. She has been accepted to attend medical school at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, but has deferred her enrollment one year as she serves as Miss Mississippi. She won the Miss University of Southern Mississippi Pageant last fall, then captured the Miss Mississippi Pageant in Vicksburg in June.
Roberts, a native of Mount Olive, Miss., joined Miss Tennessee Hannah Robison as the only competitors named as finalists in both categories. The Miss America Pageant concludes on Sunday, Sept. 13.
Roberts is also a talented classical violin performer who has donated more than 25,000 books to children in hospitals, homeless shelters and additional locations through her Pages of Love platform.
The Quality of Life award honors the contestant who excels in her commitment to enhancing the quality of life for others through volunteerism and community service. Specific attention is given to the depth of service, creativity of the project, and significant effects upon the lives of others.
