Merle Brewer Taylor passed away peacefully in her sleep on July 23, 2020, at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland, MS. Ms. Taylor was born in a three-room cabin on Roberts Road in the New Hope community near Magee, MS, on February 12, 1925, to Floyd and Dora Brewer(deceased). That cabin still stands today.
She had two brothers, Clarence and Earl Brewer, both deceased. Mrs. Taylor was married to Robert Taylor (deceased) for 35 years. They lived in Welsh, LA, where she was a member of the Welsh Baptist Church. A devout Christian, she was highly active in the church. She especially enjoyed helping with Vacation Bible School and was also passionate about her Church’s participation in Franklin Graham’s Samaritan’s Purse, Operation Christmas Child shoebox ministry. Mrs. Taylor moved to Ridgeland Place assisted living facility in 2017, to be closer to her family. In 2019, she moved to Castlewoods Place.
Ms. Taylor is survived by sons, Buddy James of Brandon, Tommy James (Debbie) of Byram, and Jeffery James (Judy) of Brandon; four grandchildren, Kayron Gaddy, Keith James (Amy), Jason James (Shannon), Hannah Clark (Timothy); six great grandchildren, Josh Gaddy, Hudson James, Kate James, Chandler Mulligan, Keegan James and Camden Clark.
Visitation will be held at New Hope Baptist Church in Magee, MS, on Tuesday July 28, 2020, from 10:00 until 11:00 AM. A graveside service will follow at 11:00 AM.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Welsh Baptist Church, Welsh, LA.
The family would like to thank the staff at Ridgeland Place and Castlewoods Place for the attention and care they provided to Mrs. Taylor during her time there. The family would also like to thank Hospice Ministries of Ridgeland for caring for Mrs. Taylor during her final days.
Arrangements are entrusted with Tutor Funeral Home of Magee.
