Questions and concerns have been arising about the upholding of the Mendenhall High School Baseball field. James Smith, a parent from Mendenhall High School, has been raising awareness on this issue.

James says the drainage around the baseball field needs to be restored because anytime a heavy rainstorm occurs, the field floods continuously.

As well as the restrooms, he says the toilets fill with rainwater and overflows. James says for this to be a 4A high school, this field is an embarrassment.

Many people may not know, but the school does not own the field; however, the city does. The Simpson County School Board pays $8,000 to the city of Mendenhall for the use to play baseball and softball. The school can not make any modifications to the field because they do not own the property.

James has come before the school board, but since the school can not do anything, his next step is to come before the board of alderman to see if they can help any with this ongoing situation. According to Mayor Booth of Mendenhall, no one has come before the board of alderman to ask for assistance.

In hindsight, Magee’s facility is owned by the City of Magee, and any improvements done to the field have been made by the parents.
