Students and staff at Mendenhall Elementary School recently enjoyed one of its favorite pastimes – the Scholastic Book Fair.
With the return of the book fair last year, since COVID, students were excited to shop for new books to add to their reading lists. A wide variety of books were available to choose from on many topics, themes, and reading levels. The most preferred books bought during the fair were The Bad Guys, Dog Man, and Pig the Pug. Dinosaurs and shark books were also a favorite.
Several retired teachers and librarians volunteered to assist students at the book fair, to include: Cindy Jones, Kathie Ward, Toni Cook, and Judy Byrd.
Parents were provided several options to pay for books with features such as the e-Wallet system, which allows parents to conveniently place money in an online shopping account for their child, and extended online shopping. Many families also took advantage of the afternoon “pop-up” shopping event.
School librarian Tracey Crawford noted how successful the fair was and that she has been asked by many students if they will get another fair again this year. She also mentioned that she’s already started planning for what family-friendly event will occur at the next book fair.
“Thank you parents for encouraging reading with your children,” said Crawford. “Reading is essential for our children’s success.”
