Mrs. Melinda Thomas has been awarded the Red Rose Award in education from the Alpha Chi Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma International for Women Educators.  This award is given to a non-teacher who is involved in education of children. Melinda has been a devoted school mom for over 15 years. She is well-known as the “FFA mom” at SCTC and loved by all.  At the Tech Center, she decorates for special events such as banquet and award ceremonies. Mrs. Thomas also chaperones field trips.  Mrs. Thomas has given countless hours helping the SCTC FFA Chapter decorate the entrance to the MS State Fair FFA Children’s Barnyard. Mrs. Thomas is a role model for the young ladies at our schools and a huge promoter of education of women in Agribusiness, as well as promoting education in other nontraditional career pathways. Melinda has received “Parent of the Year” at Mendenhall Elementary once and Simpson County Technical Center three times.  She has unselfishly served over 15 years helping and volunteering with Simpson County Schools. In the early years, she along with several other mothers established the Booster Buddies, providing meals for teachers on special occasions, supplying snacks for classes and providing school supplies for students in need.  Mrs. Thomas loves the school, the students and the faculty and will do anything to help our schools and the students we serve.
