MDOT projects continue moving forward in southwest Mississippi

MCCOMB, MISS. – The Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) continues making improvements to highways in southwest Mississippi.

“All of these projects are geared towards one main goal: improving driver safety. Safety remains MDOT’s top priority,” said Commissioner Tom King, Southern Transportation District.

A $1.2 million project to overlay State Route 198 from west of Lumberton Road to U.S. 98 is underway in Marion County. Currently, mill and overlay work has started and signal work has been completed. This project was awarded to Warren Paving, Inc. This project is expected to be complete by summer.

A $1 million project to overlay State Route 583 from U.S. 98 to Sims Thornhill Road, State Route 27 from High School Drive to State Route 48, and State Route 585 from State Route 22 north one mile is moving forward in Walthall County. Mainline paving has been completed on SR 583 and SR 585 and driveway pads and gravel will be placed soon. This project was awarded to Dickerson & Bowen Inc., of Brookhaven and is expected to wrap up early summer.

Mill and overlay on State Route 184 in Lincoln County

A $2.8 million mill and overlay on State Route 184 in Lincoln County is set to begin soon. The project stretches two miles from U.S. Highway 84 to U.S. Highway 51 and five miles from Brookway Blvd. to U.S. 84. State Route 583 will also be milled and overlayed from U.S. 84 to the end of state maintenance.

Crews will also place pavement markings on one mile of State Route 550 from U.S. 51 to the end of state maintenance.

This project was awarded to Dickerson & Bowen, Inc., of Brookhaven and is expected to wrap up early fall.

Bridge replacement project on State Route 198 in Marion County

A project to replace two bridges on SR 198 continues in Marion County.

Currently, piling is being driven and caps are being poured for the second bridge. Crews continue constructing improvements to the intersection.

This $8.9 million project was awarded to T.L. Wallace Construction, of Columbia, and is expected to be complete in winter 2022.

Bridge preservation project on State Route 35 in Marion County

A project to preserve the SR 35 bridge over the Pearl River is now complete in Marion County.

This $2.3 million project was awarded to T.L. Wallace Construction. A final inspection will be scheduled soon.

Overlay project on U.S. Highway 61 in Adams and Wilkinson counties

A project to overlay 11 miles of U.S. Highway 61 continues in Adams and Wilkinson counties. The overlay stretches from Doloroso to the Adams County line and from the Wilkinson County line to Kingston.

Work on shoulder gravel is underway. Excess excavation and the placement of crushed stone around the guardrail is now complete.

This $5.7 million project was awarded to W.E. Blain & Sons, Inc., of Mount Olive. Work is expected to wrap up mid-summer 2022.

Overlay project on U.S. Highway 84 in Lawrence County

A project to overlay the Monticello Bypass, U.S. Highway 84 from Old Highway 27 east to SR 184, is underway in Lawrence County.

Currently, undersealing of the bridges has been completed.

This $2.6 million project was awarded to Dickerson & Bowen, Inc., and is anticipated to be complete early summer 2022.

Safety improvements and overlay project on State Route 13 in Simpson County

A project to improve driver safety along State Route 13 and overlay the roadway is moving forward in Simpson County. This project stretches from State Route 28 to the Jefferson Davis County line.

Currently, crews are placing the leveling lift. Mulching work is now complete.

This $4.8 million project was awarded to W. E. Blain & Sons and is expected to be complete summer 2022.
