JACKSON, MISS. – The engineering profession covers a wide range of disciplines. Mechanical engineers design the engines that power our vehicles. Electrical engineers design our electric power grids. Civil engineers design our sewer systems and transportation infrastructure.
The Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) joins the National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE) in recognizing the week of February 17th as National Engineers Week (EWeek).
“Many people don’t realize just how much engineers impact our daily lives,” said Brad White, MDOT executive director. “The work our MDOT engineers do is vital in keeping Mississippi’s transportation infrastructure functioning safely and efficiently for the millions of people who use it every day.”
MDOT currently has 229 engineers on staff who are responsible for designing and maintaining Mississippi’s transportation network.
“If you know an engineer, thank them for what they do to help make our lives a little easier,” White said.
Founded by the NSPE in 1951, EWeek is dedicated to ensuring a diverse and well-educated future engineering workforce by increasing understanding of and interest in engineering and technology careers.
