Mary Lena Yelverton went to be with her heavenly father on May 2, 2025 surrounded by her family at Highland Home Nursing Home in Ridgeland, MS.  Mary was born September 26, 1929 in Laurel, Mississippi and began working at Sears & Roebuck after high school. It is there where she met her husband Jack. They were married on August 21st, 1954 and were married for 67 years.

Mary was an active member of Taylorsville United Methodist Church and an avid member of United Methodist Women (UMW). She loved serving at the church and did so many years in whatever capacity she could. She loved playing the piano, playing cards especially Rook with friends, and was always ready for a road trip if someone said the word “Go!” She loved attending her children’s activities and sporting events during their younger years.

She was so blessed to have been able to live at home until the age of 95. The last few years were tough with the loss of her husband and evolving dementia but she was stubborn and determined to show us till the end who was boss. Her favorites of late were eating sweets (especially Little Debbie’s and bananas), sitting in the living room and looking outside, and watching the game show network. She had been unable to attend church for the last several years but loved the Lord and could always be found on Sunday morning watching a church service on TV. She loved when friends and neighbors stopped by for visits.

Visitation will be held on Friday, May 9, 2025 from 12:00 P.M. until 1:30 P.M. at Taylorsville Methodist Church in Taylorsville, MS. Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 09, 2025 at 1:30 P.M. at Taylorsville Methodist Church in Taylorsville, MS. Burial will follow in Fellowship Cemetery in Taylorsville, Mississippi. Bro. Tim Beard will officiate. Special music will be provided by Sarah Gorell and Sue Sherman. Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Taylorsville is in charge of arrangements. 601-785-6564
