Mary Ellen Sowell Stubbs, age 86, died Wednesday, October 5, 2016, at Magee General Hospital. Visitation will be held at Tutor Funeral Home from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Thursday, October 6, 2016. Funeral services will be held Friday, October 7, 2016, at 2:00 pm, in the chapel at Tutor Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Sharon Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
Mrs. Stubbs was born on November 19, 1929, to J.E. and Ruby (Windham) Sowell. For 46 years, she was employed with State Guaranty Bank and Trustmark National Bank, retiring as Branch Manager. She was an active member of First United Methodist Church and the T. J. Burnham Sunday School Class. Over the years, Mary Ellen found great joy in hosting and planning family holidays and reunions, especially watching 8mm family movies at Christmas.
Mrs. Stubbs was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Robert L. “Shorty” Stubbs; parents, J.E. and Ruby Sowell; sisters, Dorothy Stuard and JoAnn Coleman and a niece, Cathy Coleman Jones. She is survived by a niece, Jean Stuard; nephews, Mike Coleman, Jimmy Stuard, Tyler Jones, and cousin, Debbie Clyde. She is also survived by the loving family of her late husband.
